Neocities は静的ページ向けの商用ウェブホスティングサービスである。 無料サイト向けに1GBのストレージ容量と200GBの帯域幅を提供し、有料・無料プランともにサーバーサイドスクリプティングは非対応である。本サービスの掲げる目標は「現在サービス終了したGeoCitiesの無料ウェブホスティングへの対応を復活させること」である。Neocitiesは2013年にKyle Drakeによって立ち上げられた[1][2]2025年10月時点で1,298,400以上のサイトをホストしている。[3] 本サービスはFreeBSDライセンスで提供されるオープンソースのバックエンドによって運営されている。[4][5]

NeocitiesはKyle Drakeによって2013年5月23日に創設され、同年6月28日にサービスを開始。全ユーザーに10メガバイトのファイルストレージを提供した。[6] 当初はGeoCities閉鎖前に同サイトでホストされていたサイトのアーカイブとして機能した。[7]

2014年5月8日、NeocitiesはFCC（連邦通信委員会）の本部への帯域幅速度を初期のダイヤルアップモデム並みに制限すると発表した。これはFCCのネット中立性に関する姿勢への抗議行動であった。[8][9]この抗議は広く注目を集め、[10]2015年2月2日まで継続された。[11]

2015年時点で約55,000～57,000サイトがホストされていた本サービスは、[12][13] 2022年までに460,000サイト以上、[14]2023年には615,700サイトに増加。 2025年2月10日、Neocitiesはホストサイト数100万件を突破した。[15][16]

現在、Neocitiesは無料ユーザーに1GBのストレージと200GBの帯域幅を、サポーターには50GBのストレージと3000GBの帯域幅を提供している。 Neocitiesは、帯域幅制限に達した場合でもウェブサイトが即時停止されることはないとしている。「これはソフトリミットです。一時的な急増は問題ありません。サイトを即座に停止することはなく、非常に柔軟に対応します。」[17]

使用法[編集]

Neocitiesでは、ユーザーがHTML、CSS、[18] JavaScriptを使用して独自のウェブサイトを作成でき、開発ツールにはこれらの言語用の組み込みデバッガーが付属している。ユーザーがGeoCitiesを彷彿とさせる個人用ウェブサイトを作成することを意図している。 ファイルはNeocities独自のウェブテキストエディタで編集するか、ダッシュボード内、Neocitiesコマンドラインツール、[19] WebDAVマウント、[20] またはREST APIを使用して直接アップロードできる。[21]

Neocitiesではデータ保存に2つのプランを用意している。無料プランは1GBのデータストレージと低速な転送速度、有料プランは50GBのストレージと高速な転送速度を提供する。有料プランは月額5.00ドルで、資金はサーバー費用に充てられる。

無料ユーザーがNeocitiesでホストできるファイルは、HTMLファイル、CSSファイル、JavaScriptファイル、Markdownファイル、XMLファイル、txtファイル、フォント、画像に制限されている。有料プランにアップグレードするとこの制限は解除される。この制限は、サービスが「ファイルのダンプ場」化することを防ぐために設けられている。 [22]
