サバ目は、かつてはスズキ目とされていた、サバ亜目(Scombroidei)およびイボダイ亜目(Stromateoidei)の下に提唱された9科を含む骨魚類の目である[1]。Fishes of the World, 5th ed. (2016) は、この目を有効であるした[2]が、サバ目がより大きなPelagiariaクレードの一部を形成する事が示唆されている[3]。
知られている限り最古はアジ目はアンゴラの中期暁新世のLandanichthysである[4]。
